SPARETS
Hi! I'm Sooah! My new update's called 'Sparets', and this contains but the first chapter. Thx for coming to read...
-SPARETS-
-CHAPTER ONE-
HELENA DUCKED. SHE FELT THE HEAT OF THE CURSE AS IT SAILED merely inches over her head. It had probably been a deadly flaming curse, designed to set the victim on pure, white-hot fire that could distintergrate her to ashes in a matter of seconds. Her legs trembled with that thought, and they did not support her easily when she staggered up, gaze flickering wildly for more spells to avade. Instead, she felt the reassuring touch of Banessa, one of her most trusted_ and capable_ Guardians.
"Your Majesty, are you hurt in any way?" she asked, checking Helena for any major injuries, her voice that of a worried mother. Helena suppressed a smile; Banessa was not only a Guardian but a close friend as well, and her slightly formal but friendly demeanor bought her the disapproval of many a courtier in her kingdom.
"Only my pride," she said, trying to imitate Banessa's usual, lighthearted tone. "That is greviously injured."
To her amusement, Banessa laughed in spite of the danger of their situation.
"There may be more things to hurt your pride, Helena," she said. Then her tone became serious. "If you had stayed in your chambers as I suggested_ if you would just return now_"
"No." Helena tried to put certainity in her voice, tried to speak bravely. Like a true queen. Like her mother. "I won't lie on my velvet cushions dressed in silk while my Guardians fight in my name."
"Actually, our business is a secret matter, so your name_"
"Under my orders nonethless. As I say, I have until now not backed out of this, and I will continue here with the rest of you." This time Helena heard the finality in her own voice; Banessa must have had as well, because she closed her mouth and, despite her disapproving frown, said no more.
"Who has the crown? Is it Thomas?" Helena asked. The crown had started off in the hands of Serena Maycole, but during the struggle with a choking jinx, she had witnessed Serena tossing it to Thomas Brown.
"No, Jonas Payne has it right now. That crown is certainly powerful. It destroyed those spells and wards relatively easily."
Helena scoffed. "Of course. Think of the power stored in that thing."
"It may be incredible power, Your Majesty," said Banessa, her look not entirely convinced. "But had it any power originally?"
"There was a reason how that crown could establish boundaries between different kinds of magic, Banessa," said Helena. She frowned. Her friend tended not to think too deeply about magic powers; Banessa obviously didn't like history, and she had no intrest in calculating energy. But that was part of what Helena was taught when she was younger. As crown princess, she had been obliged to learn guessing how much magical energy others had. She'd practiced on just about anybody who wandered into her sight, in hopes of improving her math skills; one time she had caught an unfortunate laundry-maid coming to her rooms to deliver her washed garments and practiced finding out just how much her magical powers were. It took two hours, and the results were disappointing. She knew about the crown's powers almost precisely. "It had incredible powers in the first place," she continued. "The five put some of their powers in it each, so it was an exceedingly powerful magic object even before we let it consume
their energy, thanks to the five."
"The five put their powers in the crown...? But I thought that was a myth!"
Helena waved away Banessa's doubts with a flap of her hand. "Many thinks so, but I assure you, it's true, not some fable my family made up to boost our authority with the commoners. You know about the myth with the Sacred Orbs we are seeking in here, don't you? The Sacred Orbs exist; so do the powers in the crown."
Banessa's jaw hung open. "And now, if we break the crown and let the Sacred Orbs each have half... I'm surprised the two powers in the crown didn't clash in the first place."
"Oh, it did," Helena muttered darkly. "But it's got no power to resist me. I am still the rightful mistress of the crown, and it recognizes me, however reluctantly. Though it has powers and maybe half-consciousness, it isn't a living thing, not properly. An un-living thing can be controled by a living creature, especially if the living one has good claims on the object. For now, we have the crown's two powers in reluctant but clear harmony."
"But that'll change. A huge gamble," said Banessa, predicting the worst. "Why didn't you tell me all this?"
Helena bit her lip. "I thought you'd understood all this. I thought you took the crown's myth as true. Apparently, you didn't and now I'm in a position of decieving you."
"You plan to have the Sacred Orbs absorb the powers," Banessa murmured, shooting another hoax out of the air. "And will you_"
"Wake them? Yes," Helena replied steadily. "That comes from the start. The injection of the incredible energies would jolt them and the hatching process would begin anyway. But this is the Sacred Orbs of the myth. Who knows when they're going to wake? Prediction isn't possible, except for maybe prophecies. But that's beyond our control."
"As I understand, the sources of the two powers existing together in the crown are right opposites," said Banessa. "Then, if you break the crown in half, the powers would divide again as well. And to feed the pieces to objects as powerful as the Sacred Orbs mean, mean..."
"No one can control them when they awaken," Helena confessed. "They'd have to depend on themselves. Maybe they wouldn't even know how to control their powers when they finally do hatch. Maybe they wouldn't know those powers exist at all. Maybe, due to the fact that their powers will be opposites and their hearts opposites, they'd destroy the world while fighting between themselves.
"What are you doing?" Banessa asked. "Just to have revege on the descadents of the family that mutinied aganist you? This is unlike you, Helena. Unless you've gone crazy_"
"You're wrong," Helena cut in quickly. "This isn't just about them and the slavery problems, Banessa, it's about the whole world. Something terrible's coming. So terrible we'll have nothing to lose even if we let loose the children that'll be born from the Orbs and the crown. Please, Banessa, I had a prophecy."
"A prophecy?"
"Yes, I_"
But whatever else Helena was going to say was muffled by an explosion; a shower of brilliant white light burst out, causing all in the huge chamber to cry out and cover their eyes in an effort not to be permenantly blinded. Then as the light faded, a new one came forth. But this was not a blinding, painful kind of light; rather of a beautiful shimmer, a glow from two round objects Helena could now see, perched upon a satin cushion on a table made of simple but gracefully curved ivory. Jonas Payne stood in front of it, seemingly enchanted at the two pure-white orbs radiating a soft but powerful blue light. He raised an hand as if to touch them, but at the last moment collected himself, drew back, and bowed hastily to Helena.
"The items you requested, Your Majesty," he murmured quietly, as if ashamed of himself.
The man would not have been able to help himself, thought Helena, as she herself approached the little table. The Orbs seemed so inviting, so powerful, just two beautiful to be true. The Orbs were in a perfect oval shape, and was in such a beautiful color of white that you could just gaze at it all day long. A faint pink glow lingered on the very surface of the eggshell, but it was a pale blue light that shimmered as an aura around the two Orbs. To Helena it looked like the two were fighting about which color they would favor; she felt squirmish_ already fighting! But surely it was her foolish superstition, just a part of her imagination. That was all.
With difficulty she managed to tear her eyes away from the wonderful sight.
"Jonas, crown please," she ordered. Jonas was standing near her and flushing in embarrassment of forgetting to hand the queen her crown, he gave her the crown.
Subconsciously, Helena licked her lips. This would be recorded in history; probably as the moment Helena the Foolish set the bomb ticking. The crown was made of gold, with emeralds decorating it. She felt the amazing power pulsing beneath her hands. She knew she could break it by hand if she tried. She concentrated all her magical energy on her hands, giving it power enough to rip a bar of pure steel apart, never mind a gold crown.
Helena forced her hands apart, hearing a satisfying crunch as she did so. She was well aware of the two powers splitting apart, one in each half. All realization of what she had one hit her, and suddenly she was hit by fear.
I will stay queenly, she told herself, as she had repeatedly over the few years she'd ruled. I will prevail. She held up her trembling arms, each half clutched in her sweating hands, and plunged the pieces into the two Orbs.
The results were immediate. Another explosion, this time about ten times worse than the first one. It was a miracle that the chamber held, even while shuddering violently as if about to break apart. Helena suspected that the room itself was enchanted, protecting it against just such occasions. The Five must have expected that someone would try to steal the Orbs, after all.
Helena flung herself upon the floor and lay flat on her belly, the others following her example. The dust slowly cleared, letting the coughing, wheezing inhabitants of the chamber to see and hear.
What they first heard was knocks on the large door, and voices yelling in confusion. One shrill voice rose above the others.
"Who's here? As the chief minister of the queen, I order you invaders to surrender at once!"
Chief minister. That was the annoying yet powerful Matthew Leiz, a short, dumpy man with beady eyes and a rather high voice, like a shrill crow. Supposedly it was an accident with his vocal cords when he was young, and it was damaged so that even magic could not set his voice to what it was originally. He pretended to be loyal to Helena, but she knew that all his posturing was fake. He was with the rebels. He wanted her out of the throne so he could clutch power. He was probably a sort of spy. A very valuable spy, with all his influence and wealth.
Helena looked at Jane Carrier, who was the Defender in charge of making sure their business remained secret, in shock. "I thought you'd laid soundproof charms upon this room?"
"I did, Your Majesty! My strongest wards," said Jane Carrier, looking equally shocked. Then her eyes widened as the truth sunk in. "Your Majesty... the explosions."
"What?"
"The first one must have sent powerful shock waves that shattered my spell."
"And the next one was clearly heard all throughout the palace." Helena finished grimly, understanding now.
She looked around at the wreckage and gulped.
Queen Helena had a lot of lying to do.
"Jonas, crown please," she ordered. Jonas was standing near her and flushing in embarrassment of forgetting to hand the queen her crown, he gave her the crown.

Pop song contest!- class 8
In last Saturday, we did pop song contest! ( simply, pop con ) we sang 'treasure'. And , We got third pride!! We practiced very hard~ So, we was so happy!!
Come to GLPS camp!
-To. Children between twelve and thirteen years old.-
Greetings! Are you good at English? Want to do better? Do you want to meet others as fluent in English as you?
Then here's your chance! Apply for GLPS camp, which is open for both summer vacations and winter vacations! Always open for a student with potential and is between twelve and fifteen years old! The camp is held in Gangwondo Hoengseong, KMLA foreign language boarding high school.
Here is the instructions for application; it really is very simple. You must write an interview, things about yourself, online in the camp website. You may or may not do this, but it would help if you mailed to us records of your winnings in English competitions as well. Write it and send it to us online. We'll look through all the interviews and records, and those of you who pass the test will be invited into the camp!
The camp is not free, of course. It demands a sum of $3, 389.17 from each of its students. But the educations are excellent and the whole program will be under complete discipline. We assure you that you will not regret paying the fee.
The students will be divided into levels; They will take the level tests, both in interviews and writing essays, and will be assigned to classes. The camp is a boarding program, and six students will be in one room, which actually contains two rooms and a bathroom. Three students will be in one room. There will be TAs and PAs; they are actually the students in this school, or at least former students. TAs will be assigned to one class each; they will guide the students to their classes and assist teachers. PAs will have one or two rooms in the domitory assigned to them; their job is to watch over the students, supervise elevators, make announcements through speakers, and keep them disciplined.
As I said in my earlier statement, the classes planned for you will be excellent. We have Debate, in which we will teach each student the formal forms of debate and have students to perform actual debates aganist each other. We have History, in which all students would learn to make history presentations in front of their fellow students. We also have Writing, in which we will teach students speech writing and blog writing, improving their writing skills, public speaking skills, and computer skills. Of course, for the students' health, we have programs in which they can have bodily exercise as well. In P.E, at summer camps we will have archery, yoga, and fencing. At winter camps we will teach Ski, Fencing, and Taekwondo. We also have golf, in which students are educated in the classic sport of great social use. For weekdays such programs will be performed. In Saturdays special programs will be held; while during weekdays students have seven periods of class, at Saturdays they will have only two periods. The rest of their time will be spent on watching_ and, perhaps, participating_ in the wonderful special programs. We will hold the pop song contest, Recreation&Dance party, Speech/presentation contest, and debate contest. In Sundays, we let the students choose their classes! There are no education that day. Students will get to pick from Vision Quest, which is a program held in their classes, Voulenteer work, and religious services. Even while in the camp, you get to go to Catholic or Protestant churches, whichever your religion is. Then in the afternoon we will have sport clubs. Students get to apply for their favorite clubs, things like basketball, soccer, tennis, and dodgeball. They will spend an healthy and happy day running around playing games and exercising themselves.
There are plenty of students that have gotten more than they had bargained for when they'd paid their fees to come to the GLPS camp. They've earned confidence, computer skills, researching skills, organizing skills, writing skills, logical debating skills, sports skills_ and many of them left with happy memories in their hearts! Also, a lot of students who'd attended the camp was accepted into the KMLA school when they grew older.
How will you spend your golden vacation? Will you spend it slouching around watching television, or will you spend it learning useful information and acquring educational skills? Come to GLPS camp, where it's gauranteed that you'll have an worthwhile experience. Make your choice for vacation wisely. GLPS offers you more than you ever imagined.
